First, we suggest visiting the seaside

The seaside is a wonderful place to visit, any time of the year, but it’s even better when the weather is hot and the sun is shining. But it’s not just about sunbathing. Here are our favourite things to do at the beach when you’re visiting Norfolk with your little ones.

1. Build sandcastles

2. Have a rock pooling session

3. Go on a beach treasure hunt

4. Play frisbee

5. Fly a kite

6. Play volleyball

7. Watch the sunset (if you’re staying overnight)

There is so much to see in Parks and gardens

There are lots of great parks and gardens to explore in Norwich. Here are a few of our favourites.

Marriott’s Way – Marriott’s Way is a 26-mile footpath and cycleway which follows the trackbed of the old railway line between Norwich and Aylsham. It runs through some beautiful countryside, providing easy access to many woodlands, water and wildlife habitats. Along the way, there are numerous picnic stops, historical sites to visit and play areas for children.

Eaton Park – Eaton Park is the largest park in Norwich, with formal gardens, open spaces, football pitches and play areas. There is also a miniature railway which runs at weekends and bank holidays during the spring and summer months.

Mousehold Heath – Mousehold Heath is an area of heathland covering around 240 acres between Sprowston Road, Rouen Road and Woodcock Road in Norwich. The heath is home to an array of wildlife including bats, slow worms and adders. There are many paths through the woodland as well as a large open space complete with a skate park, café and orienteering course.

What to expect from Outdoor and indoor arts

The summer of 2022 is set to be the best in years. We’ve got loads of great events and festivals happening across Norwich and Norfolk, so get planning your summer with our guide.

Norwich Theatre Royal

The Theatre Royal is a Norwich institution and you’re sure to find something you love here. From pantomimes to musicals and ballets, there’s something for everyone at this historic venue.

Norwich Playhouse

This popular theatre hosts stand-up comedy, music, dance performances and more throughout the year. It’s also a great place to catch local productions and drama shows from student groups.

Norwich Puppet Theatre

With a focus on puppetry, the theatre showcases all kinds of shows for children and adults, including comedy, storytelling and live music. There’s also a puppet museum onsite!

Norfolk & Norwich Open Studios

Each year artists open up their studios for people to come and visit during this summer extravaganza. You can explore a huge range of art forms and meet the artists in person as they showcase their work, so it’s well worth keeping an eye out for updates.

Explore Norwich Food and drinks

To explore the city centre with the kids, start by heading to the market, where you can grab lunch and find souvenirs. A market is a great place for kids, who will be amazed by the variety of food available! While you’re there, don’t forget to check out the cathedral – it’s really beautiful inside.

As for restaurants, you can find them almost anywhere you go, but a few suggestions that we like are Bill’s Restaurant, Caistor Hall and Wells Crab house.

Norfolk is a very family-friendly part of England. There is a huge range of traditional attractions that are always popular with children, and there has been a consistent focus in recent years to make the city more child-friendly.

The opportunities for family fun in Norwich are seemingly endless. And it’s good too that our recommendations take in both indoor and outdoor activities because when it’s not raining you can have plenty of fun outside.
